The Meaning of True Objectivity.A Story by Áoren Húdressen
This evening's smoke: Dunhill BB1936
Sitting here smoking my pipe, watching the smoke curl and dance up from the bowl before fading into nothingness, I'm granted a higher level of mental acuity; a shifting of mind that seems to settle on recent experiences, primarily concerning abstraction; possible meanings within all I encounter and have encountered. Just as one finds their brow furrowing after some farfetched and outright absurd happening in retrospect of one's dream, so too do I ponder certain . . . happenings in a way comparable. Yet, my countenance shifts not from the seemingly absurd nature of some twisted realm of consciousness, no, I find myself puzzled with the actually absurd nature of observable reality. The condition is one toyed and played with by many a philosophical and despairing mind, I myself see a . . . fascinating allure to the conceited, perhaps the darker natures of existence, but the sensible man knowns to remain positively detached from all theory and thought - at least if he understands the nature of true objectivity. Attuning to both personal experience and observations over the years, it would indeed seem justifyable in suggesting that one aspect of human nature is to feel and seek both hope and meaning, but what of the individuals who lose, and / or fail to find these things? The majority - that is, the overwhelming sense of most individuals I have observed - instantly despair; and fall but meer inches before the devouring darkness that is suicide - or death in the general sense. It would seem that the, hmm . . . "usual"[?] . . . human mind simply cannot exist as a vessle of existence without an observable means to be . . . without a reason to breathe, to wake up and feel. The dreadful thing here - what most fail to see - is that both hope and meaning are superfluous to existence; the heart will continue to beat, the brain will continue to cogitate, the birds will sing the same song, and the family next door will continue to laugh and cry without these things. But what of the few, of the minority, of the cadre of individuals who hold that superlative understanding of invaluable worth? They continue subtly smiling, walking without purpose, and searching for whatever it may be that they decide is of utmost importance - and they do so without fear, without feat of death in both the physical and meta-physical sense. What then becomes of life when all meaning and hope runs dry, like the last drip of water evaporating from an ancient oasis that always seemed both promising and fruitful? The egotistic philosopher, fueled by knowledge beyond his comprehension, would state this: 'Nothing. Life would not change at all. The nature of existence from the objective perspective would not shift nor alter.' The ego and its instinctual thought process is easily-identifiable with, and one does not struggle to follow the logic, nevertheless - the logic is fatally flawed. The fatal error lies in the reasoning that life, in and of itself, can be perceived - even in the slightest - objectively[1]. Solipsists argue that only one's own mind is certain to exist, but this belief in itself contains a gaping hole when comprehending existence; but life to a Solipsist is where real value can be found. How does one treat one's life when one understands life entirely stems from one's own mind? The answer is simple and need not be spoken. The Solipsist exists as he does, as separate from the external looking glass that is all else, and in existing this way he cannot be moulded by the plague that is all else beyond his own desire and being. So then, if both the egotistic Philosopher and his fatal "objectivity of life" and the Solipsist and his trap of "subjective certainty" are both lacking - in a sense - regarding "what becomes of life when all meaning and hope runs dry", what then does become of life in this sense? Life is not "of itself", it is no force capable of perception or measurement; one cannot taste or touch life as a standalone force. Life exists within the individual; it is a vehicle allowing that individual to experience a realm otherwise unknown to everything and nothing. Therefore, what becomes of life after the abject loss of hope, is determined by the nature of the loss itself, and of the individual's means of perceiving the reality he is a part of. Life beginning inside the individual adapts to the experiences and advancements made by the individual in question throughtout the linear timestretch that is that individual's life; this continues whether the change be of negative or positive influence. Just as life changes via the individual, so too does the individual's understanding and correspondence with life. Despair is not an influence that infects man, it is purely an effect of being human, and it is up to the despairing individual to attune with all experiences and all sensations he encounters. The intelligent man will stride through his own life detached from all things that could possibly affect him; including vague and superfluous items such as hope, but he will not admonish such items either - he will simply keep his distance. Distance in this respect is wholly healthy, and provides for the individual a metaphorical space wherein he can think for himself; and it is this space that is the true meaning of objectivity. Justified existence isn't just; it is arisen from an individual's internal calculation. Allow man to live however he will, but the intelligent man lives his life according to the virtues he creates himself through un-influenced intellect. To live is easy, simple, mindless one might say; what provides respect upon any individual's existence is to what degree that individual understands the connection between their own intellect and essence. [1] - I feel it necessary to denote for any individual searching to either understand or create the phenomenon of "popularity", only one simply question is of importance when estimating the possibility of an object or theory's popularity, and the question is this: 'Could a mind understand this without the slightest of thought?' If the anser is yes, then the item will become popular. If the answer is no, then only the few whom can't accept ignorance can admire the item. Many a great mind had projected the age wherein ignorance is rewarded with respect, when thought is abhorred, when intelligence is shunned - WHEN THE RACE BEGINS ITS REVERSION TO ATAVISM - this is the age in which we now live. © 2015 Áoren Húdressen |
