Parting

Parting

A Poem by Franchesca N.

Goodbye--
A very powerful word
That can break one's heart
And heal another's soul.

Goodbye--
It signifies the end
Of something big or small,
But alters life, anyway.

Remember when you said it?
I can't blame you for that,
But I hope you'd listen.
Just a few moments is all I ask.

Goodbye--
Yes, it might be the end,
But it could also mean
A brand new start.

Goodbye--
Can we just say it to our faults
And start anew?
I still need you here.

Goodbye--
Are we really ending it?
Though you've already said it,
I'll never say it to you.

YOU KNOW I CAN'T.

Goodbye--
A powerful word I can never tell you.
NEVER. Despite the hurts you've caused me,
I still can't say it to you.

Goodbye--
If you really want it this way,
I'll let you go.
But, just so you know, I still need you here.

Goodbye--
You could always say that to me
But in the end, you'll still see me
With arms wide open, waiting for you.

Goodbye--
A very powerful word
That becomes meaningless
When it comes to you.

I STILL NEED YOU HERE.

I like the idea behind this piece, but i think you need to explore your use of language more. Instead of saying everything to the reader, use images. Some poems work being very blatant and blunt, but imagery can connect to so many more people so much more deeply. I would stay away from capitalizing words, try to create emphasis through other means (like imagery). Poems are so short and sweet they really need to embody all the senses. Don't just use thought, what else is going on? Smell, touch, feel... I usually try to pick out certain lines to use for examples, but it is a little hard to do with this piece. I do like the repetition of the word "goodbye". Just play with this piece, it has a lot of potential.
