A day before my weddingA Poem by Anusha PrabhuAs I lay there, a day before my wedding Dressed in white, with little dips of Lydia’s mood And lace stitched elbow gloves Beneath a hat, with a velvet brim I could sense him watching me…
A figure never poetised Hiding beneath the vapours of moonlight The attar of misted lilac, vaunting its lust As the tickling of dewdrops, beneath the summer haze Tingles his mere crux, I can feel him, looking right at me
No, I’ve never seen him before I can say, for I never felt this way before As he leaps his stride towards me The cadence of his steps, Seeps beneath my feminine charisma
As I lay there, a day before my wedding Buried beneath the hues of the finest millinery Beside a lavender vase, Adorned with a bouquet, Of which the fragrance of lavender, escapes within!
As I read my chronicle, lying on my bed He plucks a little flower off the vase And places it, in my arm And suddenly, there’s a chill Rushing in my heart
He says, ‘I love you’
Yes, a day before my wedding A man I never met before, A man who wasn’t assigned to be my man A man who wasn’t waiting for me, in the wedding church A man who wasn’t supposed to be here at all
Is the man, I have now fallen in love with!!
A day before my wedding, I whisper ‘I love you too’ To a man I never met before! But somehow, I knew, this was true! This... right here… right now… was my moment!
‘But I’m getting married tomorrow’ I said, with utter dilemma
As he bends down towards me, on the bed And kisses me Like this was meant to be His lusty lips, sending chills to my backbone He holds me tight Pulls his lips away, and says ‘Yes you are, but to me’
