My tryst with humor

Making someone laugh is the most difficult thing.

I decided to write humor,

But what are my options?

What if I make a fun of someone’s look?

But look is not designed by the people themselves,

What if I make a fun of some religion?

But it won’t be sensible,

What if I make a fun of some politician?

But they are already a joke on the nation,

What if I make a fun of someone’s appearance?

Even I am not a Tom Cruise to joke about them,

What if I make fun of myself?

I am sure that won’t hurt any sentiments,

But wait even I have some self respect,

For humor I can’t sell my respect,

Ah! Aghast I decided to end that,

Humor is the most difficult thing in the world,

It’s not easy to bring a smile with your words,

It might fall flat or it might hurt someone,

Who knows holding a gun someone might be on my look out,

Life is precious you see, if its own (pun intended),

So let me stop now and ask my friends,

About the ideas for any humor,

Which should not hurt any religion, gender, region or individual?

For now let me keep my tryst with humor to rest.

Very moving. Humour is a tricky thing. It's not nice to make jokes that are hurtful, I agree.
It's such a sensitive topic right now too. Not sure if this is related to recent events. While it may be in poor taste to mock someone it's certainly not illegal. Retaliation like that which we've seen is terrible. I loved your poem, raised some good questions.

Great piece, I didn't get a feel of a particular "jab" at any one or recent events, but just a realization of how we can cross boundaries sometimes one peoples pain can be others humor. we should be more courteous how we joke, with that being said as far as the recent events you can not ever justify taking lives because someone laughed at you and hurt your feelings, ABSURD. Great poem well written.

To be quite honest Anurag I found this to be quite humorous - the soul searching you went through I took to be tongue in cheek and a witty sitire of what is is to write that thing we call humour. I cant dwell on this too much or I may stop being the idiot Im reknowned for - but in my view this of itself was very Monty Python-esque.

I love this writing, its exactly how I think!
Why try to make at least in some situations, a joke if you know that you'll hurt someones sentiments or religios beliefs.
This is one masterpiece here, I love this one

it didn't go horribly wrong at all, but under the smile attempted in these words is something quite serious.
a statement on what happened in France, for example...satire meant for humor causes a reaction of death and destruction...
people in this world today seem to have little sense of humor...they take themselves much too seriously.
