ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF A SOULA Poem by Anuradha
I was ten, when it happened to me.
The most glorious thing in the world after love, we call it friendship. Friendship too is special and important in its own way. Difficult but not impossible to find. But when you do find it is the beginning of a sunlit life. Never knew I would find her so easily. She sat just next to me in the class. And it all happened so quick. One moment we were shy, not speaking to each other, the next moment we were rolling together with laughter, marking a friendship with a happily ever after. Days passed as minutes and months as days, soon it was a year, and our friendship as new as yesterday. But fate had something else in store.. She found a new friend and forgot me, as if I never existed. My next friend was my personal sunlight, we had the souls alike. Her laughter spread warmth. always full of energy, Shining as a burning flame. I knew, this times nothing could go wrong. But it turned out I was wrong. She had to leave , for her father had a job somewhere else, where the destiny of our friendship couldn't meet. This was for the longest I had, had a friend. Summer passed in tears, Winter was no clear. Cloudy seemed the future near. But the rain had to fall, the sky had to shine, and in came the person who made me smile. This one was my guardian angel. The one who showed me the breaking dawn. The eclipse was over, the new moon had at last showed up. After a very long time it was an 'annus mirabilus'. Yet again we separated, but this time - It was the life dear. How ruthless can immortality be in one's life? It was yet another feeling of deja vu. God knew my heart is 'Achilles Heel' and i could easily be killed by the draconian laws of friendship. How silly and confusing life can be. It was my friend who had died, but it was me acting like the dead. It was not the death of a being, but the death of an eternal relationship. My friend was the corpse with the soul, I was the living one without a soul, as it lied in the coldness with the dead. As I walked towards the ocean of darkness, alone in the twilight, searching for the midnight sun. Waiting for the night to befall. As after night it is always the sunrise which dominates the sky. Friends go away, it is the friendship and the bitter-sweet memories that are left behind. © 2010 Anuradha |
