For my nameA Poem by Antwannette
My name is not normal.
It is not English Or Christian. or "American," Whatever that means. I have rarely met other girls with my Name. There was I time that I hated My name Because it was not Amanda, Ashley, Jessica, or Cathy. Because it was another peculiar name. Because It is a Black Girl's name People will twist their heads and Ask Am I saying that right I thought that people will judge me for my name because it is odd. My name would mean Ghetto Ignorant Promiscuous I tried to define my name and found nothing. There was no definition for my name it meant nothing Once I had found that it was a Boy's name It was an African name that meant "Friend," A man from Iran told me it was Arabic I have been told it is a Pretty Name It is different It is unique I think of Sojourner Truth who went into the wilderness and was called by a Higher Power to Change Her Name My name, Is not normal, but if I were to stand before the Face of God, He would call be by My name. So I will not be ashamed to say my name, There may never be a day that I hear My Name in a soliloquy or In a love song But it is enough for me My name is not English It is not Christian It is not American It is mine. © 2014 AntwannetteReviews

If I'm not drawing or crocheting, I'm writing. I've self-published one book so far, though it's nothing fancy.. more..Writing
