Vanity Of A Wish

Vanity Of A Wish

A Poem by AnthonyTodd
"

Sometimes we wish for things that cannot be. We simply have to do with what we have right here and now.

"

I wish it could be…

I wish God made a provision…

I wish that technology made it possible…

For a person to be able to keep their life as it were today:

   The friends and loved ones-

   The experiences-

   The accomplishments-

   The joys-

   The lessons learned-

   The wisdom and knowledge-

Even the hard times and the failures-

Keep it all.

And still turn back the hands of time to a younger self.

   The energy

   The passion

   The strength

   The virility

The ability to add unearned years

The chance to experience youth again

The opportunity to begin another legacy.

A comprehensive do-over.

But it can’t be…

God has not given that kind of grace…

Science will never be that advanced.

So wishing alone is wasting time.

We have what we‘ve been given.

We have used up what is gone.

We have made our choices and have lived our experiences…

To date.

What we still have is what is yet before us:

   What can be still lived-

   What can be still experienced-

   What can be still accomplished-

   What can be still enjoyed-

   What can be still learned-

Who and What can be still loved.

Don’t waste what lies ahead.

Make it happen…

Make it meaningful…

Make it worth the past.
