You were like a little peanut when you first entered this world.

That little face quivered and shook as you cried your first cry.

I held your tiny frame in my hands

And I whispered, “I love you” for the very first time.

 

   Never before was I so proud

   Never before was love so unlimited

   Never before had I known faith so great

   I believed in you.

 

Like a defiant weed you grew before my very eyes.

Nothing could stop you from living life to capacity.

You pretended, you created, you imagined and dreamed

Every day the sun rose, you reinvented life afresh

 

   Never before was I so proud

   Never before was love so unlimited

   Never before had I known faith so great

   I believed in you.

 

A young man stood before me waiting for the car keys;

Off with friends on a brand new grown up adventure.

You rode off into the sunlight with wind in your hair.

Fashioning a future without a care in the world

 

   Never before was I so proud

   Never before was love so unlimited

   Never before had I known faith so great

   I believed in you.

 

You’ve seen life moments of greatness and grandeur

God moving in your midst in blinding speed.

You’ve had moments of stillness having hit hard walls.

Still you beam with greatness having conquered it all.

 

   Never before was I so proud

   Never before was love so unlimited

   Never before had I known faith so great

   I believed in you.

 

There’s no telling where life in the Divine will take you.

New horizons of sunrises and sunsets await you.

Seasons of creation, imagination, and dreaming will awaken you;

Tempered by fleeting moments of pain, grief, and fear.

 

Just know this:

   My heart will always be proud

   My love will always be unlimited

   My faith in you will always be great.

   I believe in you.
