From The Porch Of A Sicilian Cottage

From The Porch Of A Sicilian Cottage

A Poem by AnthonyTodd

From the Porch of a Sicilian Cottage

Golden beams of warmth shatter the dark

As the sun rises above the hills.

The darkness retreats, into hiding it goes

As the sounds of life permeate the air.

From the porch of a Sicilian cottage.

The dew lets off a gentle mist

As the sun warms every blade and leaf.

Grapes are shining, birds are singing;

All senses are bursting forth with life

From the porch of a Sicilian cottage.

The fruit of the vine shares its essence of life

The taste of wine its promise foretells.

Clusters of magic, gloriously awaiting

The harvest of goodness soon to come.

From the porch of a Sicilian cottage.

Dusk slowly creeps in, the earth settles down

And prepares for a mystical evening.

Candles are aglow, a bounty is set

On the table which is set before me.

On the porch of a Sicilian cottage.

Darkness has come like a loving spirit

Peaceful and gracious her loving arms embrace.

The candles still flicker,

Though their light is now small.

From the porch of a Sicilian cottage.

The night is so soft and gentle and quiet.

How tender the day closes around us.

Hand in hand with whispered kisses

We retreat to our slumber

From the porch of a Sicilian cottage.
