Hungry Enough

Hungry Enough

A Poem by AAmell

It begins like a clot;

Slowing constricting the flow

Until it boils over the pot.

Bonds become weak

And your mind sinks low

‘Til you crawl and you sink

To the dark pits below.

Your ravenous side pours

As your hunger side grows,

And you get through the doors

A smell of flesh to the nose.

Your yearning and loyal mind clash,

And down your firm resolve goes.

Your heartbeat slows

As you walk on your toes

To doom, down the path you chose,

And your actions an idea expose:

A hungry enough dog will eat the trash

Author's Note

AAmell
This is my interpretation of the process of someone coming to the conclusion to cheat on a spouse. I have never done this, and do not plan to do this, but I imagine this have some footing in the way it all goes down. My poem starts with a 3 line stanza, then increases in the middle two, then comes to the 6 line stanza with a faster pace, signifying the rush one would get when about to cheat, and finally ends with the solitary line meant to represent the sad conclusion and the sad feeling that one gets when they realize what they've done.

This is quite something! Strong imagery supporting a great metaphor of the hungry dog about to do an unforgivable act. The musicality is great, and the poem itself very well structured right down to the lonely line at the end (which really says a lot about the theme)! Well done!
