WAS IT YOU AND WILL IT BE YOU

WAS IT YOU AND WILL IT BE YOU

A Poem by Aarti Sriram

Was it you and will it be you

The heart wants to go to my old buddy and meet

To see and feel how will you treat me and greet

The mind even then raced and so did our hearts beat

Were glad to exchange the gaze just in nearby seat

To remind how it was when we would be near

The melancholy in music we could feel and fear

Wish to know if you also missed the ‘us‘ like I do

If’no’ let me not show then, my deep feelings r for who

Other times the mind plays monkey often so

And now there is a way but the mind says NO

Letting someone in too close feels uncomfortable

Want to make close friends without being vulnerable

It takes forever to get close  and make friendship

Meantime, see others make friends in just one trip

Attimes sick and tired of the 'polite small talk' we've to

Wish there'er ways to figure out who to trust n how to

You give your reader much food for thought in this well constructed poem, Aarti. Love the Font you chose to write the poem, it is one of my favourites! To meet or not to meet, that is the question. It would be nice to meet a friend of old, to chat about old times, share memories together over a nice meal and then, see what happens after that, see if you are open to something happening after that as in getting together more often or perhaps, not meeting anymore. I believe that when a relationship ended, there was a reason for it and trying to repair it after a certain amount of time can go either way. It may not be repairable and then you just stay friends, nothing more. If it is repairable and two people want to try again, remember why you split up in the first place before making a choice which could cause even more heartache. GREAT write from your poetic pen, Aarti. Love this poem, it reminded me of a similar situation in my life, once upon a time... Thank you so very much for sharing, dear Aarti...

"It's old friends after all." Guy Clark New love is like a new pair of leather shoes, pretty and shiny but uncomfortable as hell until they're broken in. Old love is like a favorite pair of ragged jeans you can wear like a second skin; maybe not so fashionable but you wouldn't trade them for anything. That said, a foul weather friend is always better than a fair weather love. Great read, I enjoyed.

Meeting an old flame after a relationship has ended? Time passes, the air may have cleared and there may be possibilities, but take it easy. The relationship ended for a reason. Having said that it’s always good to remain amicable. Nice little poem. Many will relate to Aarti.

Nice poem , the title says more....
No wonder your are rediscovering and giving us gem... liked it how you point out with four different prespective of same friendship in four different santza.. I too agree our mind plays monkey, making us fool enough that's why there is three monkey 🙈 🙊 🙉...
But some non replaceable things are hidden in your lines, Sis....
Last you end with a punch.. friendship is not an easy thing though it looks like a easy ride at first but build on strong trust in its truest nature... 😀

this a thought-provoking piece about what friendship means. we all value our friends, but among us are certain types who need friends a lot. and i am that type. and knowing that i cannot get closer to certain people is a strain that i know not many understand. but it seems you do, and so i am very glad i came across this writing.
