Sock Suck-cess!

Sock Suck-cess!

A Poem by Aarti Sriram

Sock Suck-cess!

Whenever I do my laundry, the big spreads take time folding

If I do not for days, then from my mother I get scolding

But one thing for sure even she cannot seem to be solving

One each of blue, furry, and satin socks  all gone, now missing

Seems like socks have a plan to roam around after each wash

They plausibly have hideouts near the machine  after the slosh

They surely love to get washed, soaped, rinsed, and aired

Where do they go after, never to come back and get paired

It has been a sock mystery from childhood till my marriage

Now I only buy black socks, so none are left behind in the carriage

Every time I see colourful and soft ones to buy to go with my dress

I think I won’t lose, but I do... a brilliant escape, you impress

I think my husband steals them and he thinks I pair them wrong

Little caps, bralette even scarves are there in place even a thong

Folded clothes slip and slide, as I search, folding again, I dare

So many socks, I have tried to pair, can you find a match anywhere

Just when you think you have now found the pair perfect

One mysteriously goes missing and singles out like a defect

Leaving you with a sock drawer full of mismatched styles

Like gold and precious documents, I think I need sock files

So many divorced pair of socks, I think  after wash they like to be single

Now it’s a fashion: wear a blue sock with a pink sock,  ready to mingle

Even so all my black socks look paired the hidden socks never got caught

More than 20 socks went missing from the new stock I bought, then sought

.

You have captured superbly an age old problem in this finely penned and beautifully narrated story about "Missing Socks!", dear Aarti.
I think it is a problem that many homes experience, but what to do about it or where to find the missing socks, remain a mystery. The only solution is to buy more socks, as you have done and by buying all black socks, they can always be paired up.
You are a natural story teller, Aarti and I so enjoy reading your stories, I love them!!! They are always so entertaining and always penned with humour. Thank you so very much for sharing...

Haha 😄
That's right... choosen words, throwing socks up in air... (we keep missing things, untill it is not placed rightly, but women can come with an extra invented solution on own 😅)
But you made an intercaste marriage happen without a war... well war was there to balance the singility...
