Genuine 1-to-1

Genuine 1-to-1

A Poem by Aarti Sriram

Genuine 1-to-1

She and her man dressed up in their best ethnic wears

Told the kids to also choose decent attires

They  were always told and felt too that you get treated

The  same way you dress talk , presented and get evaluated.

There were many guest handsome and esteemed

The host took care of the August company and tastefully served

Hustle bustle with young and old  music and chatty

But her eyes and heart  searched for some-else in the party.

To talk  to and smile learn enjoy and cherish

To  fill the moments with wisdom that doesn’t perish

Was it so rare  to be and to find even 1  for few hours

A  genuine heart to heart connection minus the powers.

She knew she had to greet, meet and tweet

And so did others too ,but it was no easy feat

Wish there was a friend to  relate to who you felt close

Could speak your heart, head and feel the  fresh rose.

What was the point of such party and splendor

When a true old friend or a good book could fill our calendar

But dare we hide and pride in not going to such parties?

And now we have to return host and more   hi teas?

Few hours spent on our duties and hobbies

Would suffice to heal and pay no need  freebies

But we doomed and build  a world of short talk and long travel

In the name of a home family and in the name of survival...

This poem reminds me of my best friend... but she just left out of some misunderstanding... I can't fill the void yet... but I learned to value others relationships with me and mine to them more, even it is tiny bit time...
Very good narration.... 👍
Sometimes we want our kids to more socialize, but back we too struggle... keep going, who knows? so you might even find one of your kind. 😀😊

Such a gently emotional poem whilst considering its passage. You've used superb meter, each stanza finely rhythmic. As to content, Life is odd, erratic, unsettling, yes. We follow the courtesies expected, do what should or try to, then.. suddenly realise we are doing all that for what, why and importantly, for whom! Perhaps there comes a time when a bucket list is vital and headed: WHAT MUST I DO TO MAKE ME HAPPIER? Adding perhaps an * :) * to show your heart is still in good order!
