Be.

Be.

A Poem by N. N. Grainger
"

A short poem about my opinions on equality :)

"

Be

They’ll let me live

When there are no longer words for me.

They’ll let me exist

While there are still terms to divide me.

And what will happen when the world let us be?

I’ll kiss your brow and touch your cheek and balance your head so precariously.

And what will happen when they don’t judge me?

Let us be. Let us be.

I’ll hold up the sky and fail to breathe and the world will awake simultaneously.

And until that day, I have no plead.

And I’ll kiss the floor.

And they’ll kick my knees.

And the world will laugh itself hoarse at me.

Author's Note

N. N. Grainger
My philosophy behind equality is that for us to all be truly equal we must stop giving each other titles or identities beyond out own names. I hate being referred to as a Lesbian, I wish people would just accept that I just AM, I just LIVE, like we all do, the only way we know how to and don't expect or try to separate ourselves from everyone else; that we all have something major in common, our humanity.

this is great, and i love that you provide a nice background in the author's note. and i'm in total agreement: titles and labels cultivate prejudice, and people should simply be accepted as they are.

keep writing poetry, you're a great writer.

5th line should be "lets us be"

Good poem, very emotional.

Amen! Say it again! I don't like titles either - I'm just me! I don't fit in any category; I'm not someone who can be molded. I am who I am and I love who I love!

*stands and applauds you*
