Before TodayA Poem by AnonymousDudeBefore Today Before today there was yesterday And if we go back farther we find another age An age unplagued with pollution and land fills An age where global warming is unheard of This is the age of the wild Where there are no cities and towns Where there are no roads and highways In the age of the wild There are only trees and shrubs And miles upon miles of forest If you stop and listen you’ll hear something Something lost in the age of today As you listen you walk and you hear the rustle of the leaves And the snapping of twigs underfoot As the wind blows You here the leaves in the trees blow in the wind Almost like the sound of the waves Crashing on the shore You hear the scurrying feet of the wildlife Running to hide from you the creature from today You hear the language of the birds As they talk to one another like old woman gossiping As you walk on the sun sets and you hear new sounds The sounds of crickets chirping Like the leaves flying in the wind You hear the sound of mosquitos buzzing Like bees in a summer breeze You hear an owl hoot far off in the distance He’s hooting for a friend And then a moment later you hear a wolf howl Searching for its pack You keep on walking for miles Listening to these sounds And find not one sign of life For miles around But as the sun comes up You start to hear the sounds of sunrise But you find that that’s not all you hear No not at all…. If you listen closer You hear Loud clangs Loud bangs And loud beeping You hear the sound of machinery You hear Yells Shouts And hammering You hear the sound Of today You hear the sound of man © 2013 AnonymousDude |
