2: Hot (Part 2)A Chapter by Melissa
I felt a little cooler than I was before, but I was still hot. Liam took my temperature again after a half hour and it was down to 104.5, not as low as I would like but it was still lower than 105. My head was still swimming but slowed down a bit after a little while and I was able to think again, well slightly anyway. My comprehension increased and I was gaining a little energy. I was thirsty. It felt like the entire Sahara desert was in my mouth and there were no oases around. My eyelids were still heavy, but that was just because I was tired. My throat burned and it felt cracked and dry. I tried to speak but all that came out of me was a harsh raspy wheeze. I tried the best I could to clear my throat but it didn't work. My fever burned off what little mucus that I had left in my nose and throat making it hurt severely to even breathe. I took a breath and managed to croak out one word, "Water." Liam tensed up and got closer to me so that he could hear better and said, "What?" "Water." I managed to say again.
"Y-you want water?" Liam stammered since he hadn't spoken in a while. I gave a small smile as if to say yes and Liam ran off to get me water. He returned with a glass of clear, sparkling water, a luxury item now days. Usually the water, even if you bought it, was dirty and dingy. I took a small sip of the cool water and let it sit in my mouth for a little while. It felt weird to have water in my mouth after having such a dry mouth for a long duration of time. The water came from a well that we had and usually they are all polluted but not ours. We took care of what precious little we had and that included the water. In my mouth, the water tasted like chlorine, but I didn't mind too much, it was water after all. I slowly drank the rest of the water. After a few more hours, another bandage changing, and a few glasses of water, my fever broke (and I really had to pee). I relaxed even more and I could talk and had energy again. "Liam," I asked getting anxious, "would you be so kind as to take me to the bathroom?" "Yeah." He said picking me up.
He took me to the bathroom and gently set me down. I closed the door and used the bathroom. When I opened the door, Liam was waiting outside. "Do you want me to carry you back to the couch?" he asked. "No, not yet. I want to try to walk on my own again." I said with a smile. "Okay." Liam said standing next to me.
I started to walk but I fell down instead. Luckily, Liam was there to catch me. "I guess I'm not quite ready to walk by myself." I said leaning against Liam. I got up with Liam's help. I walked to the couch with the help of Liam. I laid down on the couch and got as comfortable as I could. Liam then lifted my upper half up and sat down on the couch. He laid me down on his lap and wrapped his arms around me. "So how are you doing now?" he asked stroking my hair. "Okay, I guess." I said with a sigh.
"Well at least your fever broke, and I think that I solved your infection problem. So I think you'll be up and running around like usual in a couple of days." "Well I don't think that it would be quite that soon, but yeah." "I may have exaggerated a bit but oh well."
"A bit?" I said turning on my back so I could see Liam. "I'd say you exaggerated a lot. The wound itself will probably take a few weeks to heal completely, and until then I have you to take care of me." "Aw." He said putting his hand on my face.
"I'm serious." I said pushing his hand off my face. "I won't be able to do much without your help." "Yeah I know, I'm just kidding. Do you honestly think that I would just leave you here alone?" "Sometimes I'm not sure. But I'll tell you this much, I really hate the helpless feeling so as soon as I can do stuff on my own again I am going to do it." Liam started to laugh.
"Oh I don't mean that and you know it. Get your mind out of the gutter." I said gently hitting him on the chest. "Hey I'm not judging."
"Oh just shut up. If I could go out of the room I would but I can't so I'm stuck having to deal with you." "Yeah, but you love me so you're going to have to deal with me for the rest of your life." He said hugging me. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm just in a bad mood because I'm helpless right now." "Well you couldn't have any one better to be helpless with." I smiled at him. "Yep, I'm really lucky to have you here. Now give me a kiss." "No."
"Well I would give you a kiss if it weren't for the fact that if I sit up it hurts like hell. You know if I were in your position and you were in mine, I would kiss you." I said crossing my arms. He leaned down and kissed me.
"Are you happy now?"
"No."
"And why not?"
"Because I had to tell you to kiss me I shouldn't have to-" I was cut off because he kissed me again.
"How about now?"
"Yes." I said blushing.
He kissed me a few more times and held me tight. I felt completely at ease in his arms. Within a few minutes, I was fast asleep in his arms. © 2008 MelissaAuthor's Note
