Spirits in Humble Jubilation

A sonnet that just came to me, however cheesy that sounds. As always, I hope you enjoy.

Spirits in Humble Jubilation

To reap a rhyme, to ring a rousing tune . . .

To pull a plow to people’s vocal chimes . . .

Their benefits shall come to them real soon,

Come with the wild winds of those harvest times.

To fro! To fro! Go ‘round the merry men.

Heave ho! Heave ho! Doth chant the roustabouts,

To cheery beats of song, now and again,

And children play along with screams and shouts.

The houses packed, the sun retreating down,

And most inviting odors in the air,

With men in cats and joans in evening gown,

To eat and dance to music without care.

The owls fly; they must away, away!

And rest their spirits for another day.

This is lovely. In my mind, I read it with an Irish accent. Don't know why, but it struck me as Irish.
