Break You TownA Poem by Taylor BoggessA reaction to living in Huntington, West Virginia and West Virginia in general, a state overrun with poverty, obesity, chronic disease, and drug addiction.Break You Town This town is a break you town. Even in the downtown Promise to turn around All just lost in the sound Of heartbreak, give and take. Love is fake People are desperate Begging for a break From this bullshit, hypocrite, They consume and consume Until their clothes don’t fit. All the while the perfect child Drowns in his own bile The minors of miners Aren’t keepers, They’re finders. Find out there is no out Only in, Told their whole lives They’re living in sin Feel the walls close in. Let the fun begin! Reach for a hand and it hands
them poison. Smell the s**t in the air, But who the f**k cares Everyone knows not to drive down
there. Decay, destruction, devolves to
despair, Willing to put their hopes in the
fraud with fake hair And when the floods, came there
was no Noah No Moses, no Jesus, no Jehovah Nothing but wasted prayers But who the f**k cares Everyone knows not to drive down
there. Love is all you need, But love doesn’t feed The four starving mouths at home. So please take heed: When you cry for help but there’s
no one around When your rent goes up and your
pay goes down When the lies pile up and friends
can’t be found That’s when you leave, Break free of this break you
town. © 2017 Taylor Boggess |
