The hot humid heat

The hot humid heat

A Poem by Annie
"

Another assignment for school

"

The cold was like a lost friend

I never knew how much I missed it until I entered this warm place

Seats creaking, stiff as cardboard against my body

The lights were dimmed but nothing could ward off the everlasting stickiness of this heat

My body ached as my eyes opened again and again and again

I was never going to get any sleep on this darn bus

The heat was sticky, it was like it was attaching onto my body

Like spiderwebs being spun around me, encasing me in this humid heat

My body screamed at me to get up, stretch my legs and to unwind

But I was trapped between my own sleepy mind and other hot cramped bodies

My body wanted relief from the heat

I just wanted relief from the heat

I tried to think cold thoughts, of chilly nights and white frost

But once I closed my eyes I found that I was able to sleep through this heat

And once my eyes opened, I thought for a moment that I was back

But all I saw was the that humid heat welcoming me back from sleep

Nothing but the heat.
