The Hum

The Hum

A Poem by AnnieLou

After it has settled,

after the craving was satisfied,

it sits there and illuminates

with a little hum

it hums to remind you

that it is still there

it’s filling presence

you want so badly to be absent of

You can feel its footprints

down your throat

its kicking inside your stomach

to make you bloat

And while it hums

you feel your veins

coursing with mistakes

as digestion takes place

but what now?

It cannot sit there

to add weights to your chin

to your hips, to your shoulders,

and the organs within

time is ticking

only half an hour

the humming is dimming

you crave the acid sour

is this right?

it seems so extreme

you’ve never done this before

but the humming now screams

You ache to make it stop

so shove down two fingers

go gag in the bowl

and let your pride linger

and when you are done

pat yourself on the back

your will power is growing

self discipline no longer lacks

the humming virus is cured

but don’t depend on the fix

they always evolve

to come back with a kick
