Imaginary bindings

Imaginary bindings

A Poem by Emma Kirchhoff

There's no escaping from this prison
nothing to save me from the depths of my mind
These imaginary chains holding me back
Lying unbroken and taunting
The time on my hands keeps me
Trapped in the nonexistent confines
nobody there to save me from here
the place where I am bound
no one is left for me.

'The time on my hands keeps me'. Such simple, yet words that are powerful and pack a punch. We are all held back by something or another in life, but we just understand that we won't be chained down forever. It may feel like a long time, but we will break loose one day and find out freedom. I also love the title of this piece and I just thought that it reminded me of slavery since that image just came into my head.
