Love, There is Always a Destructive RushA Poem by Annelise
Your greeting
those painfully full lips the slightest of smiles that tears at my heart. Those grey eyes dark and sultry never breaking your gaze at me. Can't you see me drowning here? Distance is closing in and I smell cigarettes and alcohol and you like the way the world smells after a summer rain. You make me foggy, weak. Leaving me with such a need. You almost vibrate with life and fury so close to touching yet still at a safe distance. Can you see? My love for you, rusty and painful, is still there. Slightest brush of lips make me remember nights of swollen lips and next morning aches. Care to save me, dear? No, not when drowning is so much fun, for you. If I don't go now my weakened knees will fail me falling at your feet. Your cruelty in this makes me beg you to let me go such a slippery slope when love and hate are perfectly entwined.
