Love, There is Always a Destructive Rush

Love, There is Always a Destructive Rush

A Poem by Annelise

Your greeting
those painfully full lips
the slightest of smiles
that tears at my heart.

Those grey eyes
dark and sultry
never breaking your
gaze at me.

Can't you see me drowning here?

Distance is closing in and I smell
cigarettes and alcohol
and you
like the way the world smells
after a summer rain.

You make me foggy, weak. Leaving me with such a need.

You almost vibrate with life
and fury
so close to touching
yet still at a safe distance.

Can you see? My love for you, rusty and painful, is still there.

Slightest brush of lips
make me remember
nights of swollen lips
and next morning aches.

Care to save me, dear? No, not when drowning is so much fun, for you.

If I don't go now
my weakened knees will fail me
falling at your feet.

Your cruelty in this
makes me beg you to let me go
such a slippery slope when
love and hate
are perfectly entwined.

Beautifully written. Lovely!

Such pain mingled in the longings... the cruel twist of love's fate, to desire and yet sit on the edge of existence. This is so beautifully bittersweet. Made me want to scream "You deserve so much more!"
