Pretty as a [Faded] Picture

Pretty as a [Faded] Picture

A Poem by Annebelle Ashire

I'm the girl,
You know,
That girl.

You've seen me before
In classrooms,
Streets,
Chatrooms.

I'm the girl who
Gets labeled "emo" because
She's trying to find a way to
Deal with life.

You'll sit there and laugh at me,
Tell me to f**k off and get a life or
Throw mine away because I different from you.

"Emo Princess" of
"Emo Kingdom", the leader of the
Place where people can actually have an opinion.

That's what the good old "U.S. of A." was founded on.

You won't hear this,
I won't hate you and I won't
Blame any one person for society's problems.

So, I'll contemplate it because...

I'm that girl.

You know,
That girl.

The one who
Treasures her friends like
That one blanket you loved as a kid.

I love my friends because
Life is like a puzzle.

Some people give up on it,
Others leave it to later pick it up again, but
The only real way to solve it is to have
More than one pair of eyes looking for the right pieces.

Those eyes have saved this soul
Many, many times and
There is no way to repay them other than to be their friend and
Hope that you're not screwing everything up.

I'll cherish them forever because...

I'm that girl.

You know,
That girl.

The lonely writer in
A world gone wrong.

I write the spoken word because
I want our world to change.

I want someone to
Care about my opinion and
I need a place to run
When I have no where left to turn.

Vast majorities would say
That this poet's words are a lie.

"She not that upset,
I saw her today and she was smiling."

I'll wear that mask so as
Not to contribute to the masses of problems
We already deal with.

You have enough crap in your life to deal with,
You don't need mine too.

I'll write my problems instead because...

I'm pretty as a faded picture,
Beautiful as a wilted flower,
Charming as an over-told joke.

But that's only because
I'm that girl.

People say I'm emo because I wear black and listen to rock music. I hate to be labelled.

Nice poem, its very heartfelt. I'm sure many teens can relate to it (though I'm far from being a teen, I can remember how awful those years were)

Well done :)

(and just because you have feelings, that doesn't make you an emo, it makes you human)
