Betrayal

Betrayal

A Poem by Annebelle Ashire

An emotional wave of pain

Constantly streaming through these veins

Overwhelming this meek body

Consuming and diminishing any possibility of hope

Striking the inevitable tears

That degrade all sensibility

Drenched in a salty residue

Not sure what to make of this action

Hatred comes to mind

But so do the words that define

So here I sit debating

Have I been betrayed?

Is this what betrayal does to a person?

I've lost a friend that has always been

Hanging by a very thin thread

Now here comes the rage

Here come the questions I long to scream

This emotion eats at my insides

And is quickly dissolving what once did abide

Trust me, I have been there when friends betray you. Very good poem, in any sense.
