Time Flies when Bubble Gum Sticks to the Carpet

Time Flies when Bubble Gum Sticks to the Carpet

A Poem by Anne Timmins

Pitty-Pat on the cereal crunched floor.Crash! BOOM!
To silence…Memories of heartbeats"of children snoring
Heartbreaks now... Where did the noise go?

From toddler, to teen Then off and away"-
Fly like the wind Abandon the nest"
fledglings fly Emptiness

Where did the time go?
The house creaks Missing the chaos
And bubble gum"With music blaring

Phone ringing
beyond capacity…Where did the fun go?
Gone is the day of child’s play

Painting sails on the wall With white clouds"
Peanut butter sandwiches"grape dripping jelly
And giggles...
Where did
MY babies go?

Time flying by quickly is a concept often tackled by other writers yet none I've read yet have displayed it in the simplicity you phrase your own piece in. Well done.

Every parent goes through stages and this is one of them. Time flies and so the children in becoming adults fly away from the nest. Bravo.........................

I can relate to this so much it hurts! I'll be an "empty-nester" in about another year or so...and already I'm beginning to feel an impact.

This was wonderful reading, Anne...and I don't mind saying I still enjoy those peanut butter sandwhiches myself, dripping with grape jelly...with the crusts cut away, of course! ; )

Oh I so relate to this! You've written a wonderful mother piece. I love the line "The house creaks Missing the chaos" - perfection! Well done!
