Be True

Be True

A Poem by Anne Martin
"

just what it is

"

Forces of destiny
bleed doubt
in a celestial promise
too good and not good enough
nameless named
faceless hoards identified

we speak

ambivalence trained
to speak preference
in a profane lie
a muck of cultural
platitudes
drunken and vulgar

we follow

led astray by
cultivated treachery
disillusioned by truth
a maze of deceit
hidden motive
good undermined

we act

tease goodness
out of subterfuge
filter the bilge
to find purity
of deed and thought
to others be kind

do right

make us whole again
unravel argument
straighten the tangle
of misinformation
settle difficulty
illuminate justice

be true
