Rootless

Rootless

A Poem by Anne Castle

I am an aimless traveler

Going from coast to coast

Country to country

No final destination in sight

While I’m welcomed everywhere,

I belong nowhere

Young and old alike envy this life

They see me as an embodiment of freedom

I have no responsibilities, but I have no roots

I have nothing to ground me, so I find myself up in the air

My home is a mile high

In between where I’m going, and where I’m leaving

I live in a constant state of limbo

I wish I could stay here always

Where my immediate destination is decided

And I can’t turn back

I let the reigns of my life go

And I become unstoppable

Untouchable.

Here I find belonging

Rooted in the ever changing clouds

But soon this trajectory will end

And I’ll be homeless again.

Lovely verses. The ending is what I absolutely loved!
So many people admire the idea of being a gypsy, traveling with no real home and nothing to be tied down to. Going where ever your life takes you without looking back. But without roots, like you said, all you have is an existence with no home.
Very well written. I enjoyed this very much.
