Too Many ThoughtsA Poem by Anna WhiteToo many thoughts. Do they circle through your head like mine? Do you shut your eyes to escape the world, Only to see it painted on the insides of your eyelids, Does the cold air cut you like knives, Does the world make your heart sting? Who the hell are these people with painted smiles, Self-assured clowns wrapped in pearly white teeth, Do they see feelings like colors in their chests, Do they know how quickly they come and go and release, Do they yearn to vanquish them, are they wistful to feel
them Though, just one more time? Are their bones like spatulas and stirring sticks, Marinating with the meat in cortisol and adrenaline, And whatever caffeine I’m pouring into myself, Does the news make you quiver and do you your eyes pop out Of their sockets when someone in it dies? Do you feel the world destroying itself, do you ever wonder
if trees have feelings, Do you stare at the sunset and grieve the day, Do you dance in the absence of light,
Do you have too many thoughts too? © 2016 Anna WhiteAuthor's Note
