Why you need a copywriterA Story by AnnaEversonIf you have a website, chances are it wasn’t cheap. If you needed professional photography, chances are you paid a lot for that too. Good wording will bring the whole package together nicely and help you sell. Engage your customer and make them react by buying your product, or visiting your website. A copywriter is someone who can communicate with your customer in a way your customer can relate to. They use different styles of writing, depending on the audience. They create text which is referred to as ‘copy’ for websites, brochures, direct mail and ads etc. They use enticing words that are designed to sell and persuade. The keyword here is communicate. A good copywriter will focus on the benefits of your product, not the features, and weave these into their copy. They ‘sell the sizzle, not the sausage’. They target your customer’s emotions, pinpointing how your product will make them feel. A good example of this is moisturiser for women. Some of these jars cost a small fortune, so how does a clever copywriter use emotions to sell this expensive stuff? They sell a youthful appearance, beauty, a dewy glow, the feeling of belonging to an exclusive club, and the fear of missing out. This makes women feel good about themselves. Would anyone buy the product if the strapline was 50ml of antioxidants and co-enzyme Q10? A copywriter will think like a customer and they are good at selling you. Believe it or not, but most people struggle to sell themselves, how modest we are! A copywriter will offer another perspective, as they are not as close to the product as you are. We constantly ask ‘so what?’ This helps us to get down to the juicy benefits of your product, so your customer can be certain they are making the right choice what’s in it for them? A good copywriter will also keep up with trends and new technology to maintain the effectiveness of their sales copy.
