LonelinessA Poem by AnnieThe cause and effect of lonelinessLoneliness husks the heart And crumples each leafy layer. First, it digs its nail through the skin And tears off palpitating veins Like threads of corn silk. Soon, it bares the juicy pulp: The naked aspirations The exposed desires. And it bites into the popping flesh Ripping every nugget of ambition Squirting the lifeblood of hope. Finally, it picks the remains from its teeth And flicks them from its yellowed nails. Doubt and fear spatters to the ground. © 2013 AnnieAuthor's Note
