Let me goA Poem by Anjeline
You point a gun of expectations with bullets of social pressure on my head,
And I stand there with a heart so pale that it seems to have forgotten the times it used to be red. They expect me to drift again to survive, keeping my foot soft and tender But exhausted from the tension of your strings, this time I confess- "I surrender" So, let me go. I don't wanna be your hero So, let me go. I just wanna run away to a miro You say it's for my own good as the world is a giant toad for a caterpillar like me But all I want is to be out of the birdcage like a butterfly who is free You say my achievements are not big enough to make you proud , You express with distress how my conduct creates a question of doubt But what if I am not a Jack of trades, what if I am not that eminent Does it mean that I will have a different remnant ? You wanted to keep me like a trophy child , Having an opinion was like a domesticated fowl gone wild But I too have my own traits, I too have my own existence Like everyone else even I want to be on the other side of the fence Just like others even I wish to laugh without feeling culpable , Surrounded by strangers but folks who consider me capable So let me go. I don't wanna be your hero So let me go. I just wanna run away to a miro. © 2021 AnjelineAuthor's Note
