If Only

Straight From My Heart- My mind got struck with this while reading a dedication from one of my friends Steve to his wife.

If Only You Would Have Been Here With Me

Holding my hands, wrapping around my shoulders

I would have felt safe every day

If Only You Would Have Been Here With Me

Getting cozy on the chilled winters

I would have enjoyed the cold blowing winds on my face

If Only You Would Have Been Here With Me

How I wonder I could hold on my expression of love for you

I would have been able to prove my immense love for you

If Only You Would Have Been Here With Me

During the showers of rain and the loud thundering and lightening

I would have hugged you in fear of the thundering sounds 

And we could have made our love

If Only You Would Have Been Loyal to Me

Same as I had been to you

If Only....

Sometimes I wonder why our story had such an end?

But now I have learned to embrace my loneliness yet in the company of the Almighty

who gave me the strength to move on

So there I was alone walking the beach imaging all the happy memories I had with you

But my heart calmly whispered to me

God loves you dear

He is walking with you

I wish only for what He can give me

Is something that He has planned for me

Then the "If Only" subsided with the low waves gently kissing the shore and my feet

It was a moment of great ecstasy and maturity and another aspect of the intellectual level

Only attained by a few hurt souls on the Earth!

Author's Note

Kindly review my work- after writing this I read it out and felt the start as if a poem but it isn't then it seemed more like a story. I am waiting to hear your thoughts.

there is a lot of moments in life that we do not feel as if it would be possible to bear without sharing it with someone when you walk alone it seems all to hard to bear everything becomes a sad reminder of what you have lost but you will not always walk alone there are many others in life going through such things seeking someone to experience the hardships and joy of this infinitely wonderful and hateful world for many there is something else to be found faith appreciation simplicity duality life is not simple that it can be entirely defined by one moment it is a culmination of many moments many connections many lives many losses and many loves and there is no way to quantify such things they are invaluable and they follow you throughout life giving perspective giving meaning giving purpose i really liked this poem a whole movie played through my head quite naturally though you may walk the beach still your never alone.

This is story that will resonate with many. 'What if' happens to most of us but we must try to move on and hopefully next time there will be a happy outcome. This hope doesn't take away from the intensity of feeling at the time.

I am confused by this.

I think the prose with poetry is fine. You might consider writing the second part as a story in paragraph form (From 'Sometimes I wonder...') on forward. I think you have a theme of contrast here which is good; how it could have been, (should have been) with this person and you give some resolution in the second section. Thanks.

Regarding the above lines, it was a confusion creeping in my mind too. What I actually wanted to say is "I image how long I could hold myself from expressing love for you
(since I couldn't hold it long) My immense love for you will show in expressions"

I meant something like this.
