Walking Alone

Walking Alone

A Poem by ~Anita Sandlin~

Today I walked around this town without you by my side;

Without your fingers laced through mine.

Tears came down like rain as the memories of

what used to be flooded my brain.

The memory of your beautiful smile the first time

I saw you will forever be etched on my heart.

I never believed in love at first sight until the day I saw you.

You stole my heart with only a smile, and

I fall deeper and deeper every day.

Over the years you have told me many times that we were

created for each other, so why do you push me away?

Don’t you realize each time you push me away my heart shatters into pieces,

and it’s getting almost too broken to put back together?

I love you today, tomorrow, and forever,

so please don’t make me walk another day alone;

I need you by my side until the day I take my last breath.

The bane of human existence--missing someone and dealing with a broken heart. I'm a story writer, not a poet, so I'll just say that your words are strong and they convey the message very well.
