![]() Pop n' PopcornA Poem by Anissa Ali![]() I wrote this for my creative poetry writing final portfolio.![]() I would like a soda pop n’ popcorn please. “Sure thing, that will be way out of your budget." Are you kidding me!
Since when did concessions become almost as expensive as the movie ticket? Malarky!
I look over and see a girl who just printed out her ticket. She passes by concessions and goes straight to theater 2 with a smirk on her face.
Pay no attention to the girl with the big black bag. No, that whooshing sound coming from her bag is not a bottle of lemon-lime soda. And that crinkling sound is definitely not a package of candy and chocolate coated peanut that she recently purchased at the local gas station.
Not that the theater even cares, anyway. I wish I could be that girl, and sometimes I am, but I feel guilty walking past the concession-stand.
The aroma of popcorn that entraps you when you enter the theater. The familiar popping and scooping into a bag or bucket. The warm and artificially colored butter that conditions your hands and smears on your clothes.
The sizzle of the ice cold cola or root-beer. Or perhaps a brain- freeze from a cola, cherry, or blue- raspberry slushie.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you may indulge in sour, sweet, or chocolate candy.
All delicious, enticing, and expensive treats to enjoy while you watch the previews before the movie you've anticipating for. © 2024 Anissa Ali |
