The Mending

The Mending

A Poem by Anima Inspired

You like your coffee black,
in the morning when the stillness
of dawn is pulled like taffy
across a sky just beginning to

breathe

and I hold your cup
with shaking hands, pouring
myself into the darkness,
my heart mixing like cream,
sugar, sweetness to poison
the silence of your isolation
until you can no longer
shower me in seclusion, until

you are ready

to trace your fingertips
on my skin, until you
find the beauty in my tears,
and I am melted
like a statue of ice
and you drink me,
sip of my secrets
find the holes in my obsession
and sow them back together.

I am not very good with imagery. I am more of a thought kind of guy. I think I watched too much Arsenio Hall back in the day, just full of those things that make you go, hmmmmm. This is amazing in how the imagery flows through the moisture of the individual parts maintaining a certain fluidity, that left me wondering about the tears that never had to be mentioned.

Wow! I love this. You imagery is so descriptive all the way through. These lines, in particular struck me as being especially powerful:

"in the morning when the stillness
of dawn is pulled like taffy
across a sky just beginning to
breathe"

and

"and you drink me,
sip of my secrets
find the holes in my obsession
and sow them back together"

It gave me the shivers, it's so beautiful. What a great love poem.

Just beautiful. The imagery is august and inviting. I like the way you use spacing to allow yerself as well as the poem and the reader to just...B R E A T H.
A rarity among contemporary poets.

This the brilliance.
cuz poetry is making .......images.....and making symbols.......and then turn them into words of explosive clever succint suprise all the way...to the last line.....making it all cracking....glass...thoroughtfuly entertaining amusement. just it is.. moving down the page with hurricane velocity.

My god. You are my kind of writer. I'm not great at writing reviews but know that I absolutely love this. Gonna go read your other work now.

Hmm, this one definitely seems darker than the others. Darker in the way that it conveys a sorrow, a wanting. What I mean is, it brings to mind a vision of pity and I want to say remorse, but I don't think that's the right word. I think the second stanza is the verse that brings this feeling to the table. Though the last one brings me back, uplifting me slightly. I like the language you use in the last stanza. It's got a beauty within it that seems to call out to the spirit, if that makes any sense. It kind of reminds me of the poetic reflections that you hear throughout The Thin Red Line. I like it.

i agree. the image of stillness like taffy being stretched across the sky is excellent.

This is very mind blowing... you really set the scene wonderfully of someone who feels alone in the presents of their loved one and takes measures to try and get close once again... that first stanza about the taffy is fabulous.
