Alone, I stand beside you

Alone, I stand beside you

A Poem by Jameson Sinclair
"

It speaks for itself

"

Standing in the weary valley,

Where no man or beast does creep,

I lowered the box into the ground

With silence too rigid to weep

I mourn a friend I sacrificed

                In order to conform

Alone I lay his body down

           And curse the wretched norm

No one else to cry for those deceased,

Or to care now that’s he’s gone

Only I can stand alone in silence

And wait for the coming dawn

I wander back through memories saved

To many a day we shared

The foes we conquered, the walls we climbed

Into the future we often stared

It was in the bleak and colder months,

When we had to go our separate ways

There were bills to pay and things to buy

And you died, disgraced, in days

So here I stand, looking out

                Across the land and streams

And down onto the unmarked grave

Which holds my hopes and dreams.
