Hallelujah

Hallelujah

A Poem by R. S. Morris

Leonard Cohen recorded Hallelujah
in the summer of '84.
Has many alluded meanings.
Leonard Cohen was an enigma of lore.

Though Mr. Cohen was not a religious man.
He knew more about religion than most.
Studied the scripture on Mount Baldy.
He was shy and not one to boast.

The true meaning of Hallelujah,
evades the most ardent of man.
Those that think they get it.
are ones who truly don't understand.

His study of religion, for a different purpose.
Not for a higher power above.
Not about ending a Sunday sermon.
Not about the power of love.

Some mortals have internal struggles.
Can't shake those slave demons.
Drinking and drugging the most tried.
Nothing else works, the most common reason.

Those that can beat the inner conflicts.
Those that can reconcile in their confess.
The true meaning of Hallelujah,
is just simply embracing the whole mess.
