The South Shall Rise Again

The South Shall Rise Again

A Poem by R. S. Morris

Some flags are proudly cherished.
At the same time hotly condemned.
Some awaken passion and fear.
The rebel flag is one of them.

A flag often misunderstood.
A flag brought back from the dead.
A flag whose meaning was twisted,
by the coward and racist skinheads.

Started out a battle flag.
Each regiment had to have one.
It kept you focused and strong,
for each battle needing to be won.

People argue the civil war,
why the north and south at combat.
Slavery always at the forefront,
but the fight was much deeper than that.

Southerners learn from their actions.
Never quit trying, always undaunted.
Keep on truckin', is our motto.
Safe spaces not needed nor wanted.

We don't blame nature for strife.
We love our Sunday sermon amen.
We don't blame God for disasters.
We dig in, help our neighbors rise again.

Sunday dinner at the table.
Southern families gather and talk.
To each other, not on the cell phone.
Special times that can't be bought.

Don't believe in protesting.
Busy working, no time for that crap.
We labor to make things better.
Causing chaos is meant for brats.

Represents the unity of family.
Represents sun baked hard work.
Men who provide for their loved ones.
From a corporate CEO to a lowly store clerk.

College students learning their place,
from professors, jobs safe with tenure.
Who don't believe in winners and losers.
Molding minds that are young and tender.

Why do professors hate the U.S?
Spewing hatred while lecturing in class.
They should spend some time in Cuba,
see how fast they hop on that raft.

We don't believe in participation trophies.
Someone has to win and lose.
Losing's supposed to make you better.
That was the way when I was a youth.

If some don't get these values.
And I don't know how you couldn't.
Maybe you should visit us in the south
for some good ole backyard Johnny Reb cookin'

But alas, the haters don't get it.
They don't even try to understand.
That's what scares them the most.
We don't play victim, we just rise again.

Knowing you earned what you have.
That feeling can't be taken away.
No one gave you anything.
Keep plugging away every day.

Was never truly about slavery,
like most liberals think and thought.
South shall rise again is not just a slogan.
Protecting our way of life, is why it was fought.

People tend to judge those in the past without realizing they simply reacted to reality as they saw it, much as we do now. Perhaps those who seem universally honored now will be similarly damned by future generations.
