My Guiding LightA Poem by R. S. MorrisSometimes at the oddest times. I hear or feel a presence near.I wonder if it's a guiding light. Helping me stay alive here. Didn't think much about it at first. Does a spirit look after me? Is there really a guardian angel? Or is it sometimes I'm just lucky. Checks done, ready for takeoff. Voice in my head says no. Everything looks good around, see no reason not to go. Decided to listen for once. It was such a powerful no. Back to the ramp and found, a bad fuel leak in the belly below. What was that voice? Where did it come from? Just luck or guardian reason? A news story I would have become. Don't believe in cracked mirrors. Never picked a four leaf clover. Raining so hard I could barely see A voice said move one lane over. The moment I broke left. Flashed by a stopped semi truck. Counted my lucky stars and thought Was that a voice or was it just luck? Gave me some time to think. That would have been very bad. Started laughing at my good fortune. Was it luck, or the voice I had? Flying among the storms. There closing in all around. Just when it seems no way out. A spot of blue light I found. Was it fate that just happened. Or was it pure happenstance? Was it pure luck I witnessed? Or was it a guiding hand? I now believe in such things. I follow the light, listen to the voice. Been helped from a lot of jams, I'm still here. Seems I made the right choice. © 2019 R. S. Morris |
