I know why caged birds sing

I know why caged birds sing

A Poem by Angelique

he free birds leap

on the back of the wind

and floats down stream

till the current ends

and dips his winds

in the orange sun rays

and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks

down his narrow cage

can seldom see through

his bars of rage

His wings are clipped and

his feet are tied

So he oppens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with fear

of the unknown

but longed for still

and his tune is heard

on the distant hill

for the caged bird sings for freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze

and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees

and the fat worms waiting on dawn-bright lawn

and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams

his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream

his wings are clipped and his feet are tied

so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with fear

of the unknown

but longed for still

and his tune is heard

on the distant hill

for the caged bird sings for freedom.

Being in a cage can be the toughest feeling in the world... I loved the title of the poem, and concept has overwhelmed me.... Again your choice of words and mastery in presentation was so good... Being able to sing in a cage is a form of freedom to the caged bird.... Wonderful work, your poems have the ability to make the reader think.... Well done dear frnd.... Full ratings....

Thank you my dear for the review
Nothing scarrier than something caged that won't sing. Thanks for capturing this hope behind the bars, I pray that I can sing.

This is beautiful, I do not understand why others have noy been reading this. I can relate to the caged bird, I am always at home and i almost never leave the house, I'd give anything to be free, and thanks to your poem I remembered i will be free just not yet. So I do sing and though they may not always be happy songs, whatever you sing tells you how I feel, Thank you so much Angelique :)
With love,
