What You See Isn't What You Get

What You See Isn't What You Get

A Poem by Angie Michelle

"What you see is what you get"
Lie
If seeing is what I get
Then I'll have nothing
Nothing of value
Nothing of worth
All I'll get is hollow items
And empty words
"What you see is what you get"
Want to know what I see
I see dirty streets
Fake personalities
I see animals running loose
Getting drugs, alcohol, sex, money
People getting killed
But the worst thing I see
Is people who share the same face as a penny
"What you see is what you get"
If that's true then I don't want it
I don't want the mess someone else made
And someone else just added on
I don't want to be the one to explain to a little child
Why their parent isn't coming home
Why would anyone want to get that
That's like giving a gift
and inside the gift is a receipt inside
Sure
You can turn it around
"What you see is what you get"
So you can turn and ignore it like everyone else
Or change it
Or try to find the inner beauty
That is where my point lies
