Old Willow Tree.

Old Willow Tree.

A Poem by Angeliki Largatzis
"

The tales uttered in Silence..

"
The cemetery sleeps
beyond the old willow trees
casting shadows as they creak -
the names of history are etched
upon the headstones of skeletons
as they lay, a memory of what once was.

The cemetery whispers
amongst the crows that mock
cawing of death as they perch -
the tales of our sorrows are told
upon the faces of the living
as they kneel, a reminder of what still is.

The cemetery sighs
beyond the old rickety bridge
moaning cautions as it sways -
the earthly breeze of nature creeps
upon the tall unkempt grasses of green
as they sweep, a telling of what may be.

The old cemeteries were different. They had a odd feeling to them. I went to the graveyards in New Orleans. You could feel the energy of people gone. I liked dear Angeliki how you described the graveyard. Some mystery and wonder. Thank you dear poet for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

There is so much perfection in the execution of this piece I am in awe. As one who doesn't even know what a stanza is Well Done. I imagine the cemetery in the poem to be an excellently executed metaphor for what lives and dies within us - but that as with every piece of art could/would/is just my interpretation. Overall a lovely read.

I would venture to say that most people do not go to cemeteries much, thus I picture them as lonely empty places where abandoned memories fester, almost as if waiting for someone to come along & care, someone to visit & stay awhile to hear the stories. Your poem pours a ton of feeling out there, painting the way I imagine the scene might be, the very essence of the place (cemetery) waiting to pounce on some random mourner that stumbles into the lair (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You really captured the essence of a cemetery with this. Powerful words. Kudos. :))
