Heaven&Hell

Heaven&Hell

A Poem by Angeliki Largatzis
"

When darkness takes a hold of you, how would you escape?

"
We're trapped, they said.
I saw it, have you -
The eyes that seemed wild with insanity?
You only get a free one way ticket -
To the place that feeds on the life of you.

It's a crossroad, they said.
One path may lead you to Heaven,
While the other to Hell -
However, did the naivety of your souls
Ever give in to ignorance?

Stealing away
A curiosity that there may be another place,
Hidden from knowledge of death.

Desolation, lifeless loss,
And crumbling hopes -
Of seeing loved ones again -
A harmony of love and peace.
"Get out, run away." They said,
Because a grave is no place to rest.

That last line simply blew me away. That definitely packed the hardest punch and put the whole poetic experience over the top. I can't say this comes as close to being on par with "stormy seas" (that poem still resonates with me) but it's grand in its own right, and so philosophical and profound. Well done! Let's compare this to my poem entitled "Heaven and Hell". It's equally philosophical, but the message is quite different.

p.s. why is "souls" plural in Stanza 2? I can't find the antecedent that shows it should be plural. If you put it singular, then in a way you also address the reader personally, and it adds power.

The living dead. Not the zombie ilk but those whose lives are deemed to be of little value - to themselves!! - is what I feel here.
Truly the most desolate of all.
A very dark write indeed Angeliki.

When life on earth is not yet enough what could life be in the afterlife? Only we can do is hope for the next life to be a much more better life to things we currently regret, feel trapped, and unfinished. When Life's itinerary is death. Very well written poetry Angeliki Largatzis. I wonder what's your true message behind this poem. Good Job!
