Black Dahlia

Black Dahlia

A Poem by Angeliki Largatzis
"

The Black Dahlia flower had inspired me, and I felt I should create an image of the flower as a sort of energy, in the form of an image stuck in one's mind.

"
Lay down and close your eyes,
Above the earth and gravity below
I float somewhere beyond.
You're painting a picture in your mind
Neither here, nor there -
You belong to a space,
Unrelated to this world.

Out of reach, the stars still enrapture
The Black Dahlia has made its home,
Within your mind - and a cautious gentleness.

The Black Dahlia is neither here - nor is it there -
It's not a flower, but a poisonous touch -
In which you had picked up without knowledge.

You had brought home a ghost,
Harbouring an open-minded creativity.
The Black Dahlia is drawn,
To the flame you possess.

Within this somewhere I've named beyond -
I see it all, the stars see it all -
The Black Dahlia made its home.

The symbolism of this piece is artistically dark and well thought of. Good poem, creative and interesting.

A very mysterious piece, like a kind of ethereal enigma. It superimposes its words upon the idea of the flower, creating a complex, somewhat unattainable concept of being. The very name Black Dahlia has an ominous, inscrutable aura - in fact, I at first thought the poem would be related to the infamous crime that the name is almost always connected with. It's interesting to discover an independent interpretation of the meaning of the flower itself. The ending has a somewhat unsettling nature, and yet also possesses an unknowable, profound feeling.

NB "In which you had picked up without knowledge." - seems that the word "in" should not be present.

This is well done in the sense that you compare a subconscious equivalent between the far reaches of space, and that which lies within the mind. Both are, as you say, "out of reach." This would account for the 'ghost' line. Clever poem.

Very nice use of words.
"The Black Dahlia is neither here - nor is it there -
It's not a flower, but a poisonous touch -
In which you had picked up without knowledge."
You create place, vision and left something for the reader to think about. The Black Dahlia is a tempting term to create mystery and possibilities. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
