Cassandra

Cassandra

A Poem by Angelface

Call Me Cassandra

Do you see from the very beginning that I will leave and break your heart?
Do you know, as I know, that we will eventually be torn apart?
Then why do I try?
Why do I give my body knowing I cannot share my soul?
Why do I desire half of you when I am already whole?
Why do ask these questions that only bring me pain?
And I already know the answers, but from action I refrain.
For as hopeful as I am,
I want to see the world through clear eyes…
Rather than through a cloud of lust and lies.

Author's Note

Angelface
In Greek mythology, Cassandra (Greek: Κασσάνδρα, "she who entangles men"[1]; also known as Alexandra[2]) was the daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy. Her beauty caused Apollo to grant her the gift of prophecy. However, when she did not return his love, Apollo placed a curse on her so that no one would ever believe her predictions.
