This Heart Needs to Beat!

 

This heart needs to beat!

To the rhythm of my soul,

And repeat… and repeat.

Its will is not my own,

It follows the one path it’s been shown.

No one can cage the bird

Without killing the spirit - how absurd!

You think you have tamed a pet?

But my true equal I have yet met.

As the music of my soul ever plays,

The body must dance on, it never stays.

Lock me up to your regret -

By selfishness you are beset.

Let this heart pound and throb,

Or of its wonderment you rob.

Captivating a spirit so free

Makes a fool of you and a slave of me.
