The Story of My Life Continues - Cover LetterA Chapter by AngelfaceOpportunity is knocking... who will open the door?Opportunity knocking? The resume you are about to peruse is not my standard resume of employment experience. I am far from entry level in my previous professional career as the Director of Operations for an oil and gas company. The resume you are about to consider is a bold step away from my career comfort zone. It reveals my heart’s truest desire and outlines my ambition to break free from my boring corporate collar, by seeking to actually do what I am passionate about and love for a living – to utilize my under-discovered talent as a writer.
I do actually have plenty of experience as a writer, I was born one. I have been writing seriously since grade school: hundreds of poems, short stories, sports articles for the school newspaper, journals of randomness, seedlings of novels, essays on myriad topics, business proposals, marketing materials, government initiative proposals, legal documents, all manners of professional correspondence, love letters, hate mail, blogs, training materials, a Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, website copy, press releases, newspaper articles submitted to the Fiji Times and three screenplays thus far. Some of these examples are freelance writing projects, others are writing duties incorporated with my other usual duties in various job positions, and the rest are personal, emotional catharsis.
I can actually write about anything, in any genre, to any audience, in any voice, for any reason. I feel I have been blessed with a natural talent for written expression and it is my true ardor. I only feel the pride of meaningful accomplishment when I am writing. I have been honored to be called a “word painter” by fellow artists, but above and beyond my vivid imagery, I am also able at times to evoke deep emotional reactions with my prose, which many readers can relate to universally, despite their various experiences. When someone or something truly touches us… it is a feeling we all can recognize intrinsically: the pang of burning tingles, which first ignite within the very center of our heart, quickening the pulse, until it feels as if it might throb right out of our chest at any moment if we do not raise a hand to clutch it, to calm its rapid rhythm. This is what love feels like, this is what rage feels like, and this is what sorrow and fear feel like. Did you feel that? I sure did.
I am looking for an opportunity to prove myself, to fulfill my ambition, and to live my destiny’s will. True, there are many writers who are much more experienced than I - and those credentials on their resumes make employers feel safe. I am looking for a more courageous soul, one who equates “safe” with “boring”, and who can contemplate my writing samples with an open mind. I have experienced every aspect of the corporate world, from the mail room to the boardroom; but in my opinion, the real spirit of art and its expression is hidden in the dark alleys and the dark corners of the minds of people like me - the true artists, the undiscovered talent - the souls who still do it for the sake of passion alone.
I have a full employment history resume available upon request, as well as writing samples, personal and professional references and letters of recommendation. If you have made it this far in your reading without writing me off as a crazy dreamer… then I thank you for your time and curiosity.
Shine On… As Always -
Olivia Leigh
