The Weight on My Shoulders

The pressure of HSC, of parents and teachers, of hardship and sorrow-that is what this poem is about.

I carry with me this pain on my chest

Weighing me down from achieving my best;

And all I ever wanted was a loving embrace,

A trifle, a smidgen, just a little taste

Of love and its companions,

Warmth and a friendship that might span eons-

If only I could shake this weight from my shoulders.
