Little One

Little One

A Poem by A.G.
"

the journey has only begun...

"

Little one,

I know it’s been awhile since we met

Last time we were together,

we were crying in our bunkbeds

Once upon a time,

the ceiling was our only friend

We’d talk for hours it seemed with only a flashlight and two hands

I remember some moments and others I wish to forget,

Little one, I know it’s been years since we met…

I am now a young adult who writes poetry and doesn’t quite dream,

Who still talks to herself while doing the dishes and wishes she was free

Don’t get jealous, I do dream, and when I do its of you,

I still cry and trip even when I have tied my shoes

Little one, times have changed but I don’t wish I could go back,

I only wish to move forward and forget the damn past

Little one, I know your lonely-

I can see it in your eyes,

Love isn’t something temporary or buried deep inside

Love isn’t hopscotch or hide and seek,

It’s written on the walls of our childhood memories

Little one, speak up and talk more to people your age,

F**k them if they’re the ones who refuse to engage

smile more-

you look prettier that way,

always make eye contact and never look away

Keep writing your heart out, make mistakes, be free

Don’t stay in one spot-

be the first to leave

Run with no shoes- forget the large crowds,

Be the first to have touched the sun and adorned the clouds

Little one, there are no limits

stop pretending you have no feelings,

stop giving yourself away like you have no meaning

don’t wait for prayers and Christian music to help you heal,

start within yourself-the surface is only starting to peel…

little one, I know it’s been long since we last met,

I know that life might be disappointing at times

but trust me,

your journey is not over just yet…

yes, that conversation between our old self of now...and then that young self of then.
and oh, what we learn a long the way...the argument is whether or not we would want to go back , and if we would, do we want to go back with the knowledge we have accumulated, or simply go back and see where life would lead us with a do over.

Beautifully written and you have come so far to get to this point and realise the things you do u have grown wiser and stronger and yes it all starts at childhood- if we can go back and clear and work on what needs to be worked on we are half way there- well done you’ll be fine🌹

The moment I understood this poem...was heavily happy for you and am happy for you!
I can also relate this with my life....at the very first of childhood, outer world wasn't easy for me to fit in...twas only me talking with myself....but somehow bit guts I gathered and started exploring..however, am yet to see the outer world more closely as I still feel that am just inside the house....
I love the total chat between "you" of now and "you" of then...
you're inspiring people through your poetry....penning well everytime!
Thanks for sharing, Angel :)
