Yellow SlugsA Poem by Brandon JursichBeing homeless for many years at times I had to use my creative brain to look at things in a different light than just black and white
I spent alot of nights on the streets having to take a good look at the simple beauty of even a city so sinful and unforgiving as this. Amongst the urban decay we can find shreds of nature retaking what was lost in civilization. One night as I was just laying around under the viaduct I came across a yellow slug, it's slow movement with a sense of determination leaving a trail of slime in it's wake. Boredom taketh hold of me I left out of my seat which was just my backpack and I sought out entertainment from my slithering pal. I was surprised to see not just one but many of these yellow slugs just crawling about. And I was happy even though it was raining and I didn't have a home, A tear appeared in my eye because it was such a simple kind of beauty as I took a closer look and saw so many other creatures living in harmony under this bridge. I for some reason remembered a friend of mine who was afraid of slugs and never told me why , I have always liked slugs as much as many other things among nature but ignored that side of me over the years . The simplicity and innocence I embodied as a child fading away everyday I stayed close to the grave craving to run away further and further.
